For the first eight (8) years of business this Academy was called Hsiao Tao
Academy of Martial Arts.

In June of 1985 the name of this Academy was changed to Dale McCutcheon’s
Martial Arts & Fitness Center.

Mr. McCutcheon’s Instructor’s name is Mr. Andrew Tamper or Grand Master Yee Chong, 10th Degree Black Belt.

Mr. Tamper was in Martial Arts for over 60 years.

Mr. McCutcheon is a Master 10th Degree Black Belt and has been in Martial
Arts for over 38 years.

Mr. McCutcheon’s Chinese name is “Chan Shih Lung”, meaning The Dragon
Warrior.

Mr. McCutcheon’s main fighting style is The Dragon.

The term Sifu is a Chinese word meaning “Instructor”.

The term Sensi is a Japanese word meaning “Instructor”.

Bow – The showing of respect, used as a greeting (same as a handshake) to
make a formal entrance or starting point.
-
When one bows, one should look straight ahead, not at the ground.

In some systems it is tradition to bow and look to the ground when being
introduced to high rankings Masters.

Karate or Martial Arts is not to be taught as a religion.

Karate and Martial Arts are both general terms.

The system taught at the Dale McCutcheon Academy is “Dale McCutcheon’s
American Karate Systems” which is comprised of the following: Chinese Kempo,
Dimuk, Do Vee Fut, Hung Gar, Judo, Ju Jit Su, Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Tai Chi,
Okinawin Karate, Japanese Karate, and six Animal Styles: Dragon, Tiger,
Eagle, Monkey, Crane, and the Praying Mantis.

To Bow: Chu Kung.

Karate: General term for hard styles (hard styles meaning great force and
power)

Kung Fu: General term for soft styles meaning styles that are based on soft
fluid movements.

At the beginning and end of each class the Instructor will bow in the
class. This is to show respect to the Instructor and to the students.
Students then turn to the flags and bow. This is to show respect to the
American Flag (being the country in which we live) and the Chinese Flag
(where Martial Arts began).
